Diamond DA20

The DA20 Katana / DV20 Katana is a two-seat light aircraft, which is manufactured by Diamond Aircraft in Austria or Canada. It is an evolution of the touring motor glider HK36 and therefore has very good aerodynamic properties. They differ mainly by the shorter span of 10.9 meters and the lack of brakes of the motor glider with a wingspan of 16.3 meters.

Technically not the decisive factor is the distinction between the types DA20 and DV20. Building on the successful DV20 Katana, which was produced in Wiener Neustadt in 1993, developed, certified and produced Diamond Aircraft Canada 1994, a lightweight, two-seat composite airplane: the DA20 Katana.

The aircraft is mainly constructed of reinforced plastic and is known for its cost-effectiveness. Therefore, it is used as a training aircraft for private and commercial pilots such as InterCockpit.

In Germany widespread the DA20 -A1 ( DV20 -A1) with a Rotax engine which can be operated both with Mogas as well as with AvGas. The less common in Germany DA20 -C1 with an engine of Teledyne Continental, however, requires mandatory AVGAS / 100LL. This version is particularly common in North America.

Big Sister of the Katana is the four-seater aircraft engine DA40, which can be alternatively equipped with gasoline or diesel engine.
