The Dicranidae are a subclass of the mosses ( Bryophyta ).

Features

The protonema of Dicranidae is usually short-lived. The moss plants are of very small to large. The lamina cells are mostly parenchymatous. The ribs are of type Dicranum or Pottia. The cells are either in Hyalocyten and Chlorocyten divided ( leucobryoid ) or light unit. The peristome is from Dicranum type ( haplolepid ), with 16 whole or frequently divided Peristomzellen.

The Dicranidae are a morphologically and ecologically diverse group. In the illustrated extent they are a monophyletic group. The relationships between the various groups is still unclear insufficient.
