The Dietikon station of the Swiss Federal Railways ( SBB) is the City Dietikon station - a suburb of Zurich - and is located on the railway line opened in 1847 from Zurich to Baden - Brötli the Spanish track. With the opening of Bremgarten - Dietikon railway in 1902 he became an important railway junction.

Track systems

Today's tracks of the SBB station consist of six tracks. The track is located on the main platform 1. Here turn the trains on the S3 which are not taken to Aarau and its terminal Dietikon is. Building

The first building built in 1847 has survived to the present time; this is mainly because it was built on the "wrong " side of the track, so turned on the Limmat and not the city. In 1866, was the construction of the new station building on the city side started it lost while in the following year, the function as a station building, was retained as a residence, however, and is now used by railway enthusiasts as a local club.

The second, built in 1866-1867 by the Northeastern Railway, designed by Jakob Friedrich Wanner building corresponds to that of the station of Amriswil, however, in which a wing was omitted.

The third station building was in the 1970s in connection with the extension of the line Dietikon - created Zurich Altstetten to four lanes and the construction of the rail yard Limmat. It is located about 200 meters to the west of the old second Bahnhofbau offset away, which one broke off after completion of the new station building. In the building there is a modern concrete building, in the ground floor of the premises and sales outlets as well as a buffet station are located. In the upper part of the multi-storey building there are apartments.

The station is served hourly with a long-distance line, which does not operate via Zurich HB

S -Bahn Zurich

Since the introduction of the S -Bahn Zurich in 1990, the S -Bahn trains are the main modes of transport in Dietikon station.

  • S 12 Brugg - Zurich HB - Winterthur HB - Seuzach / lakes
  • S 17 Dietikon - Bremgarten - Wohlen AG

During rush hours, more accelerated, unnumbered commuter trains serve the station. While the S3 is only an hour continued until after Aarau, the trains on the remaining line segments every half hour. The S17 operates during peak times between Dietikon and Bremgarten every quarter hour.
