Disocactus ackermannii

Disocactus ackermannii is a species of the genus Disocactus in the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The specific epithet honors the German cactus growers Georg Ackermann, who introduced the type 1824.

Description

Disocactus ackermannii grows overhanging basal branching and grows up to 1 meter long with no extension shoots. The base of the shoots is turning round and 10 to 18 inches long; flattened at the top and 10 to 70 inches long and 5-7 inches wide with partly wavy shaped edges that are dark green to brownish. The scarlet with green throat and curved funnel-shaped flowers are 11 to 14 inches long. The fruits are ovoid, elongated part, green to reddish brown and 4 inches long and 2 to 2.5 inches in diameter.

Distribution, systematics and hazard

Disocactus ackermannii is common in the Mexican states of Oaxaca, Chiapas and Veracruz and is found at altitudes between 1800-2450 meters.

The first description was in 1829 as Epiphyllum ackermannii by Adrian Hardy Haworth. Ralf Bauer presented the Art 2003 to Disocactus.

We distinguish the following sub-species and forms:

  • Disocactus ackermannii subsp. ackermannii: The nominate form has flattened stems with 35 to 75 centimeters in length. The flowers are 10 to 15 centimeters in diameter. The Perianthsegmente are 7 to 10 inches long.
  • Disocactus ackermannii subsp. conzattianus ( T.MacDoug. ) Ralf Bauer: The first description as Nopalxochia conzattianum was made in 1947 by T. MacDougall. Ralf Bauer presented the Art 2003 to Disocactus. The flattened shoots have a length of 10 to 50 centimeters. The flowers are 4.5 to 6 centimeters in diameter. The Perianthsegmente are 4 to 6 inches long.
  • Disocactus ackermannii f candidus (Alexander) Barthlott: The first description as Epiphyllum ackermannii f candidum was made in 1947 by Edward Alexander Johnston. Wilhelm Barthlott put the white flowering form 1991 Disocactus. The form is considered as a cultural elite. ( nom inval. ICBN article 43.1)

In the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN, the type is known as " Least Concern ( LC) ," ie, than not led at risk.
