Doassansiales

The Doassansiales are a group of smut fungi ( Ustilaginomycotina ) and how all the smut fungi, plant parasites.

Characteristics and lifestyle

The representatives of this order are connected by a complex interaction apparatus with their host plants, which also includes cytoplasmic components. Most species form large spores balls with sterile cells budding from which sigmoid basidiospores. This is regarded as an adaptation to life in water. Ecologically, the species are quite similar, they parasitize on marsh and aquatic plants, including moss ferns ( Selaginellaceae ) and various angiosperm families. Morphologically, the order is very diverse. The genera Doassinga, Melaniella and Rhamphospora form indipendent teliospores and are basal within the order.
