Dobříš

Dobříš ( German Doberschisch ) is a city in the region Středočeský kraj (Czech Republic). At 53.41 acres 7,915 inhabitants live.

History

1252 Dobříš was first mentioned as a village, signed as King Wenceslas I signed a contract with the monastery Plasy. Even then, the town belonged to the royal hunting grounds. King John of Luxembourg built the castle Vargač, the later hunting castle of his sons Charles IV and Wenceslas IV was. The latter appointed Dobříš to town.

During the Hussite Wars some armies moved plundering through the town, which then gradually lost more and more people. Only under Maximilian II granted Dobříš more rights and a coat of arms. 1630 bought the Counts of Mansfeld Castle, in 1780 it was inherited by the Colloredo- Mansfeld. This family belongs to it with its extensive park today.

Attractions

  • Castle Jizera, now owned by Jerome Colloredo- Mansfeld. During the communist regime, it was the seat of the Union of Czechoslovak Writers. The castle features an English and a French park.
  • Jewish cemetery from the 16th century.
  • Ruins of two fortresses.
  • Church of the Holy Trinity (1791-1797)
