Dobšiná

Dobšiná ( until 1927 slovak " Dobsina "; Dobschau German, Hungarian Dobsina, latin Dobsinium ) is a city in eastern Slovakia.

It is located in the mountains of the eastern Slovak Ore Mountains on a tributary of the Slaná ( Dobšinská Bach / Dobšinský creek ) between the noise Bergland ( Revúcka Highlands ) and the Volovecer mountains. The well-known Dobšinská ice cave located on the territory of the city.

History

The former German influenced city with mining tradition was first mentioned in 1326 as Dobsina writing in this entry form, a Schulze Nicholas is called and the Neugemeinde assured the Karpfener law.

The mining settlement promoted mainly copper, gold, silver and iron ore. The market rights they got in 1417, but the evidence for the collection to the city is missing.

During the Turkish raids and the anti-Habsburg uprisings, the city had much to suffer, later came the robber barons to do so.

The decline of mining in the 19th century led to the strong contraction of the municipality, in 1900 there were 5115 inhabitants, in 1930 only 4681 inhabitants (of which 1291 German ).

Hillclimb

Since 1970 there is a mountain race in which the " house mountain" Dobšinský Kopec must be defeated. The launch of the 6,800 -meter course is located on the outskirts of Dobšiná and it can be overcome height 397 meters in the direction Poprad.
