Dolj County

Dolj is a Romanian county ( Judet ) in the Walachia region, with the county town of Craiova. Its common abbreviation and the license plate number are DJ.

The Dolj county is bordered on the north by the districts of Gorj and Vâlcea, on the east by the Olt County, to the south and southwest by Bulgaria and to the west and northwest by the district Mehedinţi.

Demography

In 2002, the county 734 823 inhabitants and a population density of 99 inhabitants per km ².

2011 had the Dolj county 660 544 inhabitants thus a population density of 89 inhabitants per km ².

Geography

The county has a total area of ​​7414 km ², equivalent to 3.11% of the area of Romania. Located in the south- south-west of Romania, Dolj county located in the south of the Lesser Wallachia and covers an area of the Danube level (30 m above sea level. M. ) to the Amaradia Mountains (350 m above sea level. M. ). In the south of the circle delimits the field of community Chetatea to the town Dabuleni to approximately 150 kilometers of the Danube; in north-south direction it is traversed at 154 km from the river Jiu ( Shield ).
