Domaniža

Domaniža (Hungarian Demény - to 1902 Domanizs ) is a city and a municipality in the north-western Slovakia with 1495 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011) and belongs to Okres Považska Bystrica Region part of Trenčín.

Geography

The community is located between the mountain ranges Strážovské hills in the southwest and Súľovské Hills in the north, in a small valley at the Bach Domanižanka, a left tributary of the Waag. The center is located at an altitude of 391 m nm Domaniža can be reached via the national road 517 and 11 kilometers from Rajec as well as 13 kilometers from Považská Bystrica.

In addition to the main town of the municipality also includes the community part Kardošova Vieska (Hungarian Kardos ), which was incorporated in 1974. Since 1902, the local situation Domanižská Lehota (Hungarian Domanizslehota ) has been incorporated to Hsuptort.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1268 as Domanysa writing. There is already a parish and a priest is mentioned. At the same time there should be a castle near the town, but there are no written documents to their existence. 1559 Domaniža received the right to weekly markets and two annual fairs to organize and became a de facto market town. The main occupation was agriculture, in addition, there were two saws, two distilleries and mills.
