Donát Bánki

Donath Bánki (also Donath Löwinger ) ( born June 6 1859 in Bánk small area Kisbér; † August 1, 1922 in Budapest) was a Hungarian mechanical engineer and university professor. He is best known as the inventor of the carburetor and a water turbine.

Life and work

Löwingers name was Magyarised after its place of origin. Donath Bánki received his diploma as a mechanical engineer at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. In 1881 he was an assistant at the Technical University and subsequently an intern in the engineering works of ku State Railways. After a period from 1882 as a designer at Ganz & Co where he became chief engineer, where he mainly worked on the development of gas and petroleum engines. Together with János Csonka (1852-1939) he developed the Bánki - Csonka four-stroke engine, which was to replace than mass produced stationary engine, the steam engine in small commercial establishments.

The most important invention of the two was called the carburetor, " carburettor ". It was patented in 1893. The engine also developed by András Mechwart motor plow was fitted.

In 1899 he became a professor who specializes in: hydraulic machines, compressors and steam engines. In 1917 he invented Bánki water turbine represented a major advance in the development of the lower hydropower plants dar.
