The Don Sphynx, which is also known as Don Hairless or Donskoy is a hairless cat breed of Russian origin. The breed is not related to the better-known Sphynx, Canadian. Your baldness is not caused by a recessive, but by a dominant gene.

Character and appearance

The Don Sphynx is said to be more affectionate and cuddly animals that require a lot of attention. Like all Sphynx cat breeds, they are considered balanced and active.

In the standards of the breed cat associations, the Don Sphynx is described as medium-sized, muscular cat with large ears, almond shaped eyes and long toes that look like monkey fingers. The skin is covered naked or with a slight fuzz. Don Sphynx cats come in five variants fur. In light fuzz cats have the designation " velor", with stronger hair growth, the term " brush". Whiskers are desired.

Origin

The ancestress of the Don Sphynx was discovered in the city of Rostov -on-Don in 1986 by the Russian Elena Kovaleva. It was a female cat or short Varvara: was called Vajra. This cat gave birth to offspring with scanty fur, which in turn were hairless descendants after a Rückverpaarung. Legal situation

Related breeds

The Peterbald originally came to its own by crossing the Don Sphynx with Siamese and Orientals to get hairless cats oriental type. Today crosses between Don Sphynx and Peterbald are no longer allowed.

From Canada comes the Sphynx breed, also called Canadian Sphynx. This cat is another gene ( the recessive gene ) responsible for hairlessness. All three Sphynx types are different from the physique and have different racial characteristics. Therefore, they should not be crossed together.
