Donzère

Donzère is a French town with 5351 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Drôme in the Rhône -Alpes.

Geography

Donzère located 6 kilometers north of Pierre bar and 12 kilometers south of Montelimar in the valley of the Rhone to the orographic left bank. The Canal de Donzère - Mondragon begins and ends in Donzère Mondragon, it is 24 km long.

Culture and sights

Structures

The Romanesque church of Saint -Philibert was built in the 12th century. In the 17th century the bell tower was restored. In the 19th century, the western facade was renewed. It is classified as a monument historique (historic monument).

The clock tower was rebuilt in 1848 after the old tower was demolished in 1844 to enlarge the road.

The tower Chenivesse was built in 1510 in Renaissance style. Since 1947, the tower, with the city walls and castle as a site Inscrit (registered place of interest) is recorded. The castle was built in the 16th century renaissance of Claude de Tournon.

Sports

Since the 50s there is a municipal swimming pool in Donzère, which is open every year from July 1 to August 30. The football stadium Michel Hidalgo in the south of Donzère has a grandstand with 200 covered seats. It is mainly used for football matches. Attached to the stadium are a tennis court and a skate park. The stadium Jean -Pierre Rives is situated in the city and is used for rugby events as well as for school sport and training.

Economy and infrastructure

In the region around Donzère wine production. The wines produced here are marketed under the appellation Coteaux du Tricastin.

Traffic

Donzère has a station on the railway line Paris -Marseille SNCF. A bus service runs between the towns of Montelimar Pierrelatte -Saint -Paul -Trois -Châteaux and holds in Donzère.

Education

In Donzère there are three kindergartens and two elementary schools.

Personalities

  • Loys Prat (* Donzère in 1879, † 1934 in Avignon ), was a painter who painted mainly the landscape of the Rhone Valley.
  • Félix Clément (* Donzère in 1826, † 1888), was a painter and from 1874 to 1877 director of the École nationale des beaux -arts de Lyon.
