Dornie

Dornie ( Scottish Gaelic An Dòrnaidh ) is a small village in the Kintail area in the North West Highlands of the former county of Ross -shire in Scotland with about 360 inhabitants ( 2006 census ). In the past, the inhabitants lived mainly from fishing.

Geographically, the town is located near the confluence of Loch Duich, Loch Alsh and Loch Long. The famous Eilean Donan Castle is located on a barrier island within sight of the place. The village itself is predominantly along the waters and consists of a large number of village houses, a small store and a hotel.

The main road A87 to the Hebridean Isle of Skye, lies close to Dornie. Before the bridge, the road led through the center of the village and the traffic was managed with a ferry over Loch Long.

Under bagpipers the melody of Dornie Ferry is a very famous Strathspey.
