History

Originally founded as Walvis Bay Nature Reserve by the South African government, the park lost with the transition from Walvis Bay to Namibia in 1994 its status. Since the proclamation as Walvis Bay National Park was planned, but the name was changed in 2008 in Central Area. With proclamation in December 2010, the area is a National Park. It serves as a link between the planned major national park called the Namib - Skeleton Coast National Park.
