Double fisherman's knot

The double fisherman's knot is a knot for securely joining two ropes.

Application

The double fisherman's knot is used in Alpine skiing for joining two ropes. For abseils the drop form is recommended because the node better slips through carabiner and can impose less in crevices. The knot strength of the double stitch Spier is much better than the simple fisherman's knot; the triple fisherman's knot is again significantly better than the double.

Tie

Drop shape

Two cable ends are taken in parallel. With one end of the rope a Double overhand knot is tied to the other. With the other end of the rope a second Double overhand knot is tied on the short end of a rope. Both nodes are carefully tightened and pushed by pulling the long ends against each other.

Alternatives

  • Easy to make is the simple fisherman's knot, but he keeps worse.
  • Even easier, the bag stitch is in the form of drops.
  • In the maritime sector, Schotstek or double Schotstek used.
  • Belt loops are connected to the sling node.

Modifications

  • If a simple overhand knot tied in place of the double overhand knot, gives the simple fisherman's knot.
  • If two ropes taken parallel and first linked with the first rope around the second an overhand knot, then the second to the first another overhand knot, and finally a third overhand knot with the first rope around the second, creating a Treble T- cross shock.
  • If a single double overhand knot tied to the fixed end, created the cave node.
  • Fishermen use the double Grinnerknoten two fishing lines connect.
