Doucy-en-Bauges

Doucy -en -Bauges is a town in the French department of Savoie in the Rhone -Alpes.

Geography

Doucy -en -Bauges located at 900 meters above sea level. M., about 24 km northeast of the town of Chambery (air line). The mountain village is located in the northwest of the Savoie département, in the center of the massif of the Wallows, in the valley of the Ruisseau du Grand Nant (page stream of Chéran ), between the peaks of Mont Julioz in the West and in the East Mont Trélod.

The area of ​​12.65 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the massif of the Wallows. The area is drained by the Ruisseau du Grand Nant in a steadily sloping valley south to Chéran. History

The first mention of Doucy -en -Bauges was in 1090 under the name Dulciacum. Later, the names Dolciacum ( 1215) and Parrochia Douciaci published ( 1432 ). The name goes back to the Gallo-Roman personal name Dulcius and means something like estate of Dulcius. From the Middle Ages to the end of the Ancien Régime Doucy belonged to the rule bauges. 1933, the official community name was changed from Doucy Doucy -en -Bauges, to avoid confusion with the town of Doucy in the Tarentaise.

Attractions

The village church of Saint -Antonin dates from the 19th century.

Population

With 97 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Doucy -en -Bauges is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Savoie. After the population declined sharply in the first half of the 20th century, stagnation was recorded in recent years.

Economy and infrastructure

Doucy -en -Bauges still lives by agriculture, especially dairy farming and cattle breeding. Some employed workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. The main access is done from the village in the valley of La Compôte Chéran. Another road connection with Jarsy.
