Bellecombe-en-Bauges

Bellecombe -en -Bauges is a town in the French department of Savoie in the Rhone -Alpes.

Geography

Bellecombe -en -Bauges is located 840 meters above sea level. M., about 26 km northeast of the town of Chambery (air line). The mountain village is located in the northwest of the Savoie département, in the massif of the Wallows, on an inclined towards the south slope at the foot of the Roc des Bœufs, above the valley basin of the Chéran.

The area of ​​22.89 km ² municipal area includes a strong section in relief of the massif of the Wallows. Main feature are the oriented in north-south direction terrain structures. The western part of the municipality is occupied by a broad trough that is drained by the Ruisseau de Bellecombe and its tributaries for Chéran. History

The first mention of Bellecombe -en -Bauges took place in 1232 under the Latinized name Pulchra Comba; 1357 the name apud Bellamcombam is preserved. The place name is composed of the words belle and combe together and means something like beautiful valley.

Attractions

The parish church of Saint- Maurice was built in the 19th century in the Gothic Revival style. A chapel is located in Mont- Devant. In the other are the ruins of Sangle, the former mansion of Broissieux and the stone bridge Pont du Diable, which spans the Ruisseau de Bellecombe to mention.
