La Chapelle-Saint-Maurice

La Chapelle -Saint -Maurice is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

La Chapelle -Saint -Maurice is located at 950 meters above sea level. M., about 14 km south of the town of Annecy (air line). The farming village extends near the Col de Leschaux, a saddle in the northern part of the massif of the Wallows, near the Lac d' Annecy, on the western slopes of the Roc des Bœufs above the valley of Laudon.

The area of ​​6.48 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Wallows. The western boundary runs along the Laudon, a tributary of Lake Annecy. It flows in a wide valley floor north of the Col de Leschaux and separates the parallel chains of Semnoz ( in the west) and the Roc Bœufs (in the east ). From the river, the municipality's area extends eastward into the headwaters of the Laudon and up a steep slope to the rocky ridge of the Roc des Bœufs on which with 1774 meters above sea level. M. the highest peak of La Chapelle -Saint -Maurice is achieved.

At La Chapelle -Saint -Maurice, besides the actual center also includes the hamlet of Borny ( 936 m above sea level. M. ) on the western slope of the Roc des Bœufs and some individual farms. Neighboring communities of La Chapelle -Saint -Maurice are Saint -Eustache in the north, Entrevernes in the east, Bellecombe -en -Bauges in the south and Leschaux in the West.

History

Up to 1866, the settlement was called La Chapelle- Blanche, was once a hamlet of the municipality of Saint- Eustache. It was then separated and collected under the name of La Chapelle -Saint -Maurice to an independent municipality.

Population

With 131 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) La Chapelle -Saint -Maurice is one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Savoie. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1866 were still 248 residents counted in La Chapelle -Saint- Maurice). Due to the remoteness of the population of La Chapelle -Saint- Maurice remained relatively constant in contrast to other communities of interest in the last decades.

Economy and infrastructure

La Chapelle -Saint -Maurice still lives mainly from agriculture. In the village there is a sawmill. Some of the working population commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area, particularly in Annecy their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares of a link road that leads from Saint- Jorioz via La Chapelle -Saint -Maurice to the Col de Leschaux.
