Quintal (Haute-Savoie)

Quintal is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Quintal is on 756 m above sea level. M., 8 km south-southwest of the town of Annecy (air line). The farming village extends a scenic location in the foothills of the Alps on a high plateau at the western foot of the Semnoz ( part of the massif of the Wallows ) in the eastern Albanais.

The area of ​​9.13 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Albanais. The northern part of the municipality occupies the plateau of Quintal, the abdacht against the west and north with gently inclined slopes. To the southeast, the municipality's area covers over a densely wooded hillside down to the broad ridge of Semnoz. On the northern edge of the Cret du Tertère is 1533 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Quintal.

To Quintal addition to the actual center also includes several hamlets settlements and farmsteads, including:

Neighboring communities of Quintal are Seynod the west and north, Sévrier and Saint- Jorioz the east and Viuz la Chiésaz in the south.

History

The territory of Quintal was already inhabited in prehistoric times. Since the 11th century it formed a parish. From 1796 to 1857, a bell foundry was located in the village.

Attractions

The Romanesque parish church Eglise de la Visitation dates from the 10th and 11th centuries and is one of the oldest surviving churches of Haute Savoie. In Les Vernettes is a chapel which was built in the 19th century.

Population

With 1202 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Quintal is one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1861 were still in Quintal counted 319 inhabitants). Since the early 1970s was due to its pleasant residential area and close to Annecy but again recorded a marked increase in population. Today Quintal belongs to the agglomeration of Annecy.

Economy and infrastructure

Quintal was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. Today there are various operations of small businesses. Otherwise, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who engage in space Annecy their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is a good infrastructure anyway. The two main access roads done by Seynod or by Alby- sur- Chéran. Further road links exist with Viuz la Chiésaz and the Tourist Road, which crosses the crest of the Semnoz. The nearest links to the A41 motorway is located at a distance of around 10 km.
