Douglas Richard " Doug " Flutie ( born October 23, 1962 in Manchester, Maryland) is an American former American football player at the position of quarterback.

Flutie played football from 1980 to 1984 for the Boston College and received on 23 November 1984 nationwide attention by a 48 - yard pass that was caught by Gerard Phelan in the end zone and the Eagles almost at the last second the 47-45 win over the Miami Hurricanes earned.
