Douglas Janik ( born March 26, 1980 in Agawam, Massachusetts) is an American professional ice hockey defender, who was from 2012 to 2013 at the Adler Mannheim in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga under contract.

Career

Doug Janik was selected during the NHL Entry Draft in 1999 in the second round to 55th overall position of the Buffalo Sabres. The American, who played from 1999 to 2002 for ice hockey team of the University of Maine, was a total of five years with the Sabres under contract, but mainly played for their farm team in the American Hockey League, the Rochester Americans. On July 6, 2006 Janik signed as a free agent contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he worked for two years running.

On 15 July 2008, the defender received a contract with the Chicago Blackhawks, but was shortly thereafter as a result of exceeding the salary cap from whose squad dropped without to have ever played for the Blackhawks. On 2 October 2008, he moved to the Dallas Stars in exchange for a possible vote during a NHL Entry Drafts. However, he did not stay long in Dallas since he was released in February 2009 for Steve Bégin to the Montreal Canadiens. As a free agent Janik signed in July 2009 a contract with the Detroit Red Wings. For their farm team, the Grand Rapids Griffins, he stood as a regular player on the ice until the end of the season 2011/12.

For the 2012/13 season the defender finally signed a one year contract at the Adler Mannheim of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. He then moved to San Antonio.
