Doussard

Doussard is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Doussard is on 480 m above sea level. M., northwest of Faverges, about 16 km southeast of the town of Annecy (air line). The village extends in a broad valley south of Lake Annecy, at the brook Irishman, at the northern foot of the massif of the Montagne du Charbon bauges belonging.

The area of ​​20:14 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Savoy Alps. The central part of the municipality is occupied by the 3 km wide valley basin, which spreads on the southern shore of Lake Annecy and extends over Faverges until after Ugine. It was created by the Ice Age glaciers and later filled by erosion debris and alluvial material. The south shore of Lake Annecy is characterized by a marsh, which is protected as a nature reserve Bout du Lac. Here flow the streams Eau Morte, Ire and Bornette. Along the western shore extends the municipality area almost to the village of Duingt. To the east of the lake belongs to the Pointe de Chenivier ( 1303 m above sea level. M. ), part of the massif of the tour Cute and thus the Bornes Alps to Doussard.

To the south, grab two long but narrow corners far in the Natural Park of bauges from. One comprises the eastern flank of the Bornette and hence the summit area of rugged limestone cliffs of Montagne de Charbon. Here it is with 1803 m above sea. M. reached the highest elevation of Doussard. The other takes the densely forested eastern flank of the Combe d' Irishman, still a mostly untouched, wild valley where the last bear was killed in 1893.

  • Bout du Lac ( 450 meters above sea level. M. ) on the southern shore of Lake Annecy, at the confluence of Bornette
  • Brédannaz (450 m above sea level. M. ) on the western shore of Lake Annecy, at the foot of Felsgrates Taillefer

Neighboring communities of Doussard are Duingt and Talloires in the north, and Montmin Faverges in the east, Giez, Jarsy, Chevaline and Bellecombe -en -Bauges in the south and Lathuile in the West.

History

The territory of Doussard was settled very early. The earliest traces of human presence date back to the Neolithic, but also in Roman times was a settlement here.

Is first mentioned Doussard in 868 under the name Dulciatis. Over the centuries, the designation of Dulziadum ( 9th century ) over Dulsaz, Doucsa, Dussard converted to Doussar. The name goes back to the Gallo-Roman personal name Dulcius.

Since the 11th century, the area of Doussard the property of the Abbey of Talloires belonged. Later it came under the Mandement Duingt. For a long time was the capital today ( chef-lieu ) of the municipality Doussard Macherine, which was also inhabited since the Burgundian. The old hamlet of Doussard was due to the Irishman on the southern edge of the marshes of the Lac d' Annecy. When in 1734 the new church was built in the central Macherine, this took the name from Doussard old church site.

Attractions

The parish church of Saint- Maurice in the style of neo-classicism and its current form in the 18th century and for conversions in the 19th century. A Romanesque chapel stands in Marceau, a chapel from the 18th century in Vertier. In the nature reserve on the banks of Lake Annecy is the Tour de Beauvivier, which dates back to the 11th and 12th centuries. Worth mentioning are the old houses in the typical Savoyard style in Vertier, including the Maison Blain from the 16th century in the other.

Population

With 3561 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Doussard belongs to the medium-sized towns in the Haute-Savoie region. Since the early 1960s, a continuous increase in population was recorded. Particularly strong growth rates registered since about 1990.

Economy and infrastructure

Doussard until the 20th century, a predominantly coined by agriculture village. Today there are various companies of small and medium enterprises. Near the main road small commercial zones have developed in recent years. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work. Thanks to its beautiful location Doussard is now a resort with several hotels and a campsite near the lake. It also benefits from the day tourism on Lake Annecy, which serves as a magnet for recreational activities and water sports.

The place is a good infrastructure. It lies on the main road D1508, which runs from Annecy to Albertville. Further road links exist with Talloires ( eastern shore of Lake Annecy ), Lathuile and the Col de Chérel. The nearest links to the A41 motorway is located at a distance of about 23 km. Doussard had a station on the railway line from Albertville to Annecy via Faverges, which is now closed.
