Dr. Alban

Dr. Alban ( born August 26, 1957 in Enugu, Nigeria; Alban Uzoma Nwapa actually ) is a Swedish- Nigerian dentist, pop musician, rapper and producer with his own record label Dr. Records.

Life

Alban Uzoma Nwapa grew up with music of Fela Kuti and James Brown. He comes from a family of ten children from Oguta in Imo State in Nigeria and emigrated at the age of 18 years to Sweden and began to study dentistry in Stockholm at the age of 23 years. In order to finance his university studies, he worked as a DJ in the nationally known Stockholm nightclub Alphabet Street. His style quickly made him over the nightclub out known, because he used to create your own chant over launched by him plates.

Alban finished his studies and opened his own dental practice. Nevertheless, he kept his job as a DJ as lucrative sideline.

In 1990, he met Denniz PoP from the Swedish record label SweMix, with whom he recorded his first single, Hello Africa. Similar to his previous work, he took the stage name Dr. Alban. The beginning of 1991 released album Hello Africa sold about a million copies worldwide.

1992, this success was even exceeded: the single It's My Life landed in Germany at # 1 on the charts and sold 1.6 million copies, while the album One Love even more than 1.7 million copies were sold.

Especially in the first half of the 1990 's, he was with his hits a regular in the international charts. All in all, Dr. Alban looks back on worldwide sales of over 5 million albums and 6 million singles. With hits such as It's My Life, Sing Hallelujah, No Coke, Hello Africa, and Look Who's Talking, he was one of the most successful artists of the dance floor.

Dr. Alban is the uncle of Ricarda Wältken, a member of the former band Tic Tac Toe.

Today Alban Nwapa lives with his Swedish wife and daughter in Stockholm.
