Leila K.

Leila K. ( born September 6, 1971 in Gothenburg; actually Leila El Khalifi ) is a Swedish pop singer of Moroccan descent who was particularly successful in the 1990s. Their musical spectrum ranges from rap to reggae dance to rock music.

Biography

Leila El Khalifi was born as the daughter of a Moroccan train driver in Sweden. At school she showed unruly and was therefore sent by her father after seven years on a Moroccan school. However, after a year, she returned to Sweden, ripped from home and stayed afterwards mostly in bars and discos.

At the age of 18, she took part in Stockholm in a rap competition in which she finished second. Shortly after, she was taken by music producer duo Rob'n'Raz under contract and had in 1988 its first success with the single Got to Get. Other singles were Rok the Nation and Just Tell Me

1989 released their first album Rob'n'Raz featuring Leila K. However, during her first tour, she broke the contact to Rob'n'Raz off and launched a solo career.; she released songs such as Time and the Magic Ball that are present on the album Greatest Tracks. Dr. Alban took on the song Hello Africa with her.

In 1992 Denniz PoP produced the solo debut album by Leila K., entitled Carousel. The song contained therein Open Sesame was their most successful solo single. The song is a mix of reggae and dance- music; it reached the top ten of the music charts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The song has been covered by, among others, Daisy Dee and the techno band El Loco. With the second single from the album Carousel, a cover version of Ça plane pour moi, originally performed by Plastic Bertrand, Leila K. had another commercial success.

1993 Leila K. was named the Bestselling Female Artist in Europe. In 1995 he was the lead single from the second solo album Electric, which reached the top 10 in Sweden and Finland. The album Manic Panic and more singles were released only in Northern Europe. As a music producer Denniz PoP in 1998, died of a cancer that also ended Leila K's career.

In Sweden Leila K. is known for scandals; for example, they went drunk on tour. Your lifestyle meant that Leila K. was homeless. A Swedish record company and friends of Leila K. publish her ​​a best-of album in limited edition, the proceeds of which should Leila K help financially. However, the action did not bring enough money and Leila K. had later sent to prison.

In June 2007, she appeared in the publication of the book event Bögjävlar in public again.
