Dragonette

Dragonette is an electropop band from Canada, which has existed since 2005. It consists of front woman Martina Sorbara (which is already in the area singer-songwriter to take root ), the producer and bassist Dan Kurtz, guitarist Chris Hugget and Joel Stouffer as a drummer.

Career

Sorbara and Kurtz met at a music festival and founded the duo The Fuzz, whose music they recorded for fun in their own cellars. After these initial recordings, they eventually formed Dragonette and have been seen at their second live performance along with New Order. 2005 appeared Dragonette EP, after which she signed a recording contract with Mercury / Universal.

They decided to move from Canada to London, recorded their debut album Galore and appeared as the opening act for artists such as Basement Jaxx, The Sounds, or the Sugababes. In addition, they were headlining at smaller concerts. With the relocation to London, the guitarist Simon Craig was replaced by Will Stapleton. It appeared shortly after the first music videos on the Internet, including the video for the first single: I Get Around; Despite promotion of the band reaches this "only" number 92 on the British charts. The next single Take It Like A Man was able to record any major mainstream success. However, a release of I Get Around in Canada was able to land at No. 57 and earned the band a nomination for the Juno Award for best new band. Their cover version The Girls ( The Boys ), originally by Calvin Harris has had some airplay success. In addition Sobara and Kurtz wrote for the 1980s icon Cyndi Lauper entitled grave a Hold, which was released in 2008 on the Lauper Bring Ya to the album Brink.

In the early summer of 2009 were the release of a new download single, Fixin to Thrill ( was that to refer to the Dragonette website at no charge ) from which appeared in Canada September 29, 2009 eponymous album, as well as a collaboration with the French House artist Martin Solveig: Boys & Girls. For both works, the corresponding music videos on the internet already appeared early. Boys & Girls 2012 was used as the theme song for the TV show The Bachelor.

Better known in the German-speaking area became the band with the single Hello, also a collaboration with Martin Solveig. This achieved both in Germany and in Austria and Switzerland, the Top 10 singles chart. In Austria they even became a number -one hit.
