Action

The film is at the beginning of a black and white movie. Who lives in San Francisco and suffering from insomnia Frankie dreams of a career as an actress and a great love. Her friend Allison arranged meetings with professionally successful men with whom Frankie meets only once. In the sleepless nights she reads a lot of books.

Frankie's cousin Rob, the son of the café owner Leo, Allison asks for a week to play his girlfriend. Rob is gay, but is afraid to admit it to his father.

The café is set as a temporary worker David Shrader, who is from Michigan and wants to be a writer. When Frankie sees him, the film is in color. It turns out that David, as well as numerous book Frankie knows quotes. Frankie and David spend a lot of time together, eat sushi and spray graffiti on walls of houses. Frankie falls in love. She learns that David has a girlfriend, yet she struggles first on around him. David wants to stay with his girlfriend, a basal budding lawyer.

Frankie and Allison drive to Hollywood in the hope of being able to build a career. Rob reveals to his father that he was gay; his father says he knew it already. When David's girlfriend appears in the café, to bring him the forgotten apartment keys, David asks her if she wants to eat after his Feierabend sushi. They have a row, David quit his job and runs away.

Frankie wants to call in the cafe and learns that he no longer works there, David. Desperate, she calls in Michigan to all the families name Shrader and asks if they would know a David. At this moment, it rings at the door, stands in front of David.

Mick LaSalle wrote in the San Francisco Chronicle of 26 June 1998, the film would not be bad and would offer some surprises. He praised the representations of Ione Skye, Mackenzie Astin and Jennifer Aniston.
