DRG Class ET 85

The ET 85 was a series EMUs of Deutsche Reichsbahn ( DR).

History

1924 four steam railcar of the Bavarian type MCCI were rebuilt in the EMUs ET 85 01-04 of the wagon factory Fuchs in Heidelberg. After the conversion, a total of 32 new vehicles were ordered from Fox and BBC from 1927 until 1933. In 1927 it was not possible to accommodate all the electrics under the car floor. The transformer and the switching mechanism has thus been accommodated in a machine room. The new railcars were only slightly longer than the " prototype". The doors to the passenger spaces were also confiscated, led to the engine room from the outside but only a single door on the right side of the vehicle. All vehicles to the road number ET 85 30 originally had front doors and walkways, which were later removed.

In exactly the same form and with the same spatial arrangement - instead of the engine room, a luggage room was available - originated from 1927 to 1933 the cab control cars ES 85 01-34. As sidecar were converted triaxial Bavarian cars EB 85 01-70, which were later replaced by three-axle conversion vans. The Railcar ET 85 05 and 09 are designed for a maximum speed of 100 km / hr. DB took over the ET 85 in their inventory and called them after 1968 as Series 485/885. These railcars were used not only in the Munich suburb of transport but also in the German Federal Railroad in the Black Forest on the DreiSeenBahn and on the Wehratalbahn.

By 1977 all vehicles were retired, the last 485 005 and 885 615

In 1949, the ET 85 were 13, 14 and 16 rebuilt in the ET 90 01-03. These were used for a gear change on the steep section Berchtesgaden Koenigssee. 1972 ET 90 were retired.

The 485 007 and 885 615 were obtained in the Railway Museum Bochum- Dahlhausen. Since December 2010, the two vehicles are part of the collection electric railcar railway company Stuttgart, has acquired the vehicles. Light rail cars have again received the original cream-colored DRG finish and are issued on the Neckar in the SVG Railway World Horb.
