Drifting Clouds ( Original title: Kauas pilvet karkaavat ) is a film by Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki, which deals with the unemployment. It forms the first part of Kaurismäki's Finland trilogy, which continued the director in 2002 with The Man Without a Past and 2006 Lights in the Dusk.
Action
Ilona works as a head waitress in the restaurant " Dubrovnik", her husband Lauri as a tram driver. Both successively lose their jobs: Lauri, because the transport company reorganized and some of the employees are dismissed, Ilona, because the restaurant " Dubrovnik" goes bankrupt. Both have a hard time to get a new job: Ilona is acknowledged that she was 38 too old to work in the restaurant business; with lauric lead to health problems in the loss of driving license, so that it is not possible the intended work as a coach driver. The film is dedicated to the memory of the Finnish actor Matti Pellonpää that would have the male lead should take over.
