The Drogowa Trasa Średnicowa (abbreviation: DTŚ ) is a busy street in the Upper Silesian industrial district, which connects the cities of Katowice, Chorzów, Świętochłowice, Ruda Śląska, Zabrze and Gliwice. The road is expanded highway-like with mainly three, but two lanes per carriageway along the entire length. Thus, it provides a significant improvement of road transport in the region. The distance between Katowice and Gliwice is reduced by 26 %, the travel time by 76 %, fuel consumption by 47%, the number of accidents by 82 %, operating costs by 39% and air pollution by 50%.

Since 1993, the corporation Drogowa Trasa Średnicowa SA ( DTŚ SA ) is responsible for the financing, operation and construction as an operator.

Development and financing

The " Drogowa Trasa Średnicowa " begins in Katowice at the Stęślicki Street and ends after 20.2 kilometers in Zabrze at the node with the road De Gaulle'a. The road runs between two and six kilometers north of and parallel to the A4 motorway. The main difference is that on the route of DTS 26 knots with other roads are compared to 6 knots on the comparable section of the A4. In contrast to the A4 it is used mainly by the urbanized union, local traffic. Along the road there are several large shopping malls settled, including the Silesia City Center in Katowice.

The section between the nodes Roździeńskiego and Dąb in Katowice is part of the national road 79 On the rest of the track, the DTS is signposted province road 902 since January 1, 2006. In the city Katowice, the road is also referred to as Trasa imienia Nikodema i Józefa Renców.

Since 1994, the budget increased for the construction thanks to the European Investment Bank ( EIB), which has provided a guarantee for the financing. Since 1999, the construction of the DTS is a joint responsibility of the Polish government, the municipalities of the Silesian Voivodeship and the towns through which passes the road. This can steadily work progresses.

History

The building of the distance between the nodes in Katowice and Chorzów Dąb began in 1979, but was canceled after the first excavation at the nodes Mieszka I and Gałeczki 1981. The work was resumed in 1986. After many years of construction, with some interruptions due to financial problems, the section was opened in 2001. It was built in a 1.5 -kilometer bridge in Katowice- Dąb.

In 2006, the DTŚ in Katowice was built further to the east. There is a four-lane tunnel under the Rondo Generała Jerzego Ziętka was released with a length of 657 and 650.1 meters for traffic on 9 December 2006. In addition, in Ruda Śląska and Zabrze construction began.

On 27 May 2008 the section between Ruda Śląska and the city boundary was handed over to Zabrze to traffic. The other route to the intersection with the road De Gaulle'a was completed by 2011 and opened on 10 June 2011.

Construction

Currently under construction are the sections from node Zabrze - De Gaulle'a to node Zabrze Roosevelta (3.1 miles), from node to node until Roosevelta Zabrze - Gliwice - Kujawska (2.8 miles) and from node Gliwice - Kujawska to the already completed node Gliwice - Portowa.

The first section to be completed by the end of April 2014. Construction began in late June, 2012. The section is realized by the consortium consisting of the Eurovia Polska and Przedsiębiorstwo Remontów Ulic i Mostow from Gliwice. The construction costs amount to 184.1 million zloty.

The second section is built for 244.6 million zloty from the construction company Skanska to August 2014. The contract between the construction company and the investor DTŚ SA was signed on 11 July 2012. The construction period is 25 months.

The last time being 5.4 km long section in Gliwice will be completed according to current plans by the end of 2014. The call began in August 2012. Construction began in December 2012, after the treaty was signed on 12 December with a consortium under the leadership of the company Eurovia Polska and the construction company Bilfinger Berger Budownictwo as a partner. The construction costs amount to approximately 700 million zlotys (equivalent to approximately 175 million euros ). The construction period is 24 months, with completion scheduled for December 2014.

Planning

It is also planned for the continued construction east of Katowice to Mysłowice, Sosnowiec, bendin and Dąbrowa Górnicza. The cost of the 22.3 km long route is estimated at 160 million euros, other estimates range from 210 million euros. As a first step in the road to be extended to Mysłowice. By 2014, the route is finalized, obtained all permits and financing are secured so that the construction work can be started at the end 2014/Anfang 2015.
