Duchess Marie Louise of Mecklenburg-Schwerin

Marie Luise Friederike Alexandrine Elisabeth Catharina Duchess of Mecklenburg [- Schwerin ] ( born March 31, 1803 in Ludwig pleasure; † October 26, 1862 in Meiningen, Germany ) was a Duchess of Mecklenburg [- Schwerin ] and by marriage since 1848 Duchess of Saxe- Altenburg.

Life

Marie was a daughter of the Hereditary Prince Friedrich Ludwig of Mecklenburg [- Schwerin ] and his wife, the Grand Duchess Helena Pavlovna, a subsidiary of the Russian Tsar Paul I

Marie married on October 7, 1825 Ludwigslust the then Prince George of Saxony -Hildburghausen. On October 22, the couple moved solemnly in Hildburghausen; which it specially created road is still called by the Princess Marie Street. A year later, George's father, Friedrich Duke of Saxe- Altenburg and the court moved to the new residence. Marie and George were still alive until 1829 at Charlottenburg Palace in Hildburghausen.

As a widow, she lived on in Altenburg. To her son Ernst and her granddaughter Marie Friederike the Duchess had a very close relationship.

From their marriage, three sons were born, two of whom survived to adulthood:

  • Ernst I (1826-1908), Duke of Saxe- Altenburg 1853-1908
  • Albrecht (1827-1835), buried in Helenen Paulownen Mausoleum in Ludwigslust
