Duchy of Urbino

The Duchy of Urbino is a former sovereign state in the territory of the Marche region in Italy.

The first ruler of Urbino were the Montefeltro, Emperor Frederick II appointed her in 1213 to the Count of Urbino. The first Duke of Urbino was Oddantonio da Montefeltro who won the title in 1443 by Pope Eugene IV. The Duchy stretched in the area around the capital city of Urbino in the north of brands and bordered on the east by the Adriatic Sea, on the west by Tuscany and the south by the Papal States. 1523 the capital was moved to Pesaro. According to the Duchy of Montefeltro was briefly occupied by Cesare Borgia, and then went to the Della Rovere who thought it up to an interruption by Lorenzo II de ' Medici to 1625 or 1631. After the death of the last Della Rovere the duchy fell to the Papal States and told his story to the Risorgimento.
