Dumas is the capital and the county seat ( county seat ) of Moore County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city lies at the intersection of U.S. Highway 87 with U.S. Highway 287 in the northwest of the county in the so-called Texas Panhandle.

History

Was named the place after Louis Dumas, the president of the Panhandle Townsite Company.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 13,747 people in 4,755 households and 3,675 families. The population density was 1034.6 people per km ². The racial the population was composed of 68.09 % White, 0.72 % African American, 0.59 % Native American, 1.16 % Asian, 0.02 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 26.73 % from other ethnic groups.
