Duplex (film)

The apartment horror (duplex ) is an American comedy film directed by Danny DeVito from the year 2003.

Action

The author Alex Rose and his wife Nancy are looking for a new apartment. About a broker you can find a two-storey old apartment in Brooklyn with an old lady as a " lodger " in the upper floor. What initially sounds simple, designed for the young couple soon becomes a nightmare, because the old woman is anything but frail. While she keeps with her at night over loud TV both her landlord awake, she employs Alex during the day with small repairs that constantly go wrong and force Alex to book expensive craftsmen. After Alex laptop on which the manuscript of the novel, where he has worked for a long time, is destroyed by a disaster, and he was also interrogated several times by the police at the instigation of the old lady, the couple with the nerves is entirely at end. You decide to turn the lady to move to the abstract. However, since not achieved even a willful gas explosion the desired effect, Alex and Nancy are hiring a contract killer, but the old woman defended successfully. Ultimately, the two capitulate and pull yourself out.

It turns out for the audience that the policeman who questioned Alex, the broker and the old woman playing this game for quite some time to imnmer again to collect new commissions from the Nachmietern. Quite sadly, the story does not end for the young couple, as Rose writes a value based on their terrible experiences novel called "Duplex", which is a bestseller.

Reviews

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun - Times of 26 September 2003, the plot was "too implausible ". The viewer can identify with any of the characters.

The lexicon of international film described the film as " predictable " and " applied to heavy-handed slapstick ".

Background

The shooting took place in New York City and in a studio in Los Angeles. The cost of production was estimated at 40 million U.S. dollars. The film played in the cinemas of the United States a 10 million U.S. dollars.
