Location and construction

The Dürrnbachhorn similar geomorphological strongly the eastern Sonntagshorn (1961 m ) and the Reifelberg ( Vorderlahnerkopf, 1909 m). It has south on evenly inclined slopes with forests, meadows and mountain areas, but shows to the north steep crashes, which merge into the deep torn Wilder House trenches. It is part of Staufen- hell mountain top ( Tirolikum ) and from main dolomite and Plattenkalk, built in deeper layers also from southern Kössen lineup.

About the main peak of Dürrbach horn is the boundary between the Salzburger community toads as well as the Bavarian town of Ruhpolding. The area of the Bavarian Reit im Winkl extends to the lower west summit. The summit ridge forms the watershed between Alz and the Salzach.

North of the Dürrbach horn the Valley of Seetraun lies with the Mittersee, Lödensee and Weitsee that are clearly visible from the summit cross. To the southwest of the sprawling saddle forms on the Winklmoosalm ( 1146 m) to connect to the flagstone (1869 m). Southeast is the Salzburger Heutal. On the south side of the mountain can be found with the Dürrnbachalm in Bavaria and the Finsterbachalm and Wildalm in Salzburg three major alpine pastures.

Touristic development

The Dürrnbachhorn is from the south a not a difficult hike and developed by several marked trails. From the Winklmoosalm (or Seegatterl ) a marked path leads via the Dürrnbachalm and over the summit ridge from the west to the summit. From Heutal be reached via the Wildalm and over the summit ridge from the east to the summit. In winter, these increases are often committed as a ski tour. The first direct ascent of the north side alpinistically demanding succeeded Walter Schmid Kunz on September 4, 1906.

The Dürrnbachhorn is accessible from two sides with lifts. 1959 - One chair lift ( Winklmoos chairlift ) of the Winklmoosalm on the Dürrnbacheck (around 1610 m) was opened south-west of the main summit. Originally built for the skiing on the Dürrnbachalm the lift is only in the summer months in operation and offers a restaurant at the top station. From 1971 Heutal lifts ( Heutal - lifts) on the Wildalm on the Rieger Kaiser ( around 1530 m) were built south-east of the main summit. Plans for progressive consolidation and establishment of a ski are produced repeatedly since 1973.
