Dušan Uhrin

Dušan Uhrin senior ( born February 5, 1943 in Nová Ves nad Žitavou ) is a former Czechoslovak football player and coach. Born near the Slovakian Nitra, he went as a 16 -year-old to Prague.

Playing career

As a player, he was active at the then second division club Slavia Karlovy Vary (1964 /65), as well as the smaller clubs Aritma Prague ( 1965-1969 ) and Admira ( 1959-1964 ).

Coaching career

He began his coaching career in 1969 as a youth coach at Admira Prague, in 1974, he became the first team. For the 1976/77 season he was coach of Sparta Prague, which had just gained in the first league, but remained there only a few months. 1977/78 he worked for the Algerian club CM Belcourt, with whom he won the Algerian Cup. 1978/79 he coached the Czech second division TJ Kolin. 1980/81 he was a coach at Spartak Hradec Králové. From 1981 to 1983 he was again at Sparta Prague. He then spent four years coach at RH Cheb, this time belongs to the most successful club of the army. 1987/88 he trained Bohemians Prague. After that he went for a season to Cyprus, there to supervise the team of AEL Limassol.

In 1989 he returned to RH Cheb, and remained there one and a half years before he took over for the third time in his career Sparta Prague. By 1993, took Uhrin two league titles and the Czechoslovak Cup.

In 1994, he became coach of the Czech national team, he oversaw until 1997. In 48 games, he got 27 wins and 10 draws. His greatest achievement was the silver medal at the 1996 European Championships in England.

Uhrin went after abroad and trained sequentially Al -Nasr Sports Club Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, Maccabi Haifa (1998 /99), and from November 1999 to March 2001, the Kuwaiti national team.

For the 2001/02 season he returned to the Czech Republic and took over the FK Teplice, but was released after the 13th Round for failure. From June to November 2002, he coached the team of AIK Solna, he saved them from relegation. Due to a lot of stress, he asked despite current contract at season's end to its resolution. For the season 2002/ 03 he went a second time to Cyprus, this time to APOEL Nicosia remained there, however, only a few months and then ended his coaching career.

In 2006, Uhrin was persuaded to make a comeback and became coach of the Georgian elite clubs Dinamo Tbilisi. 2007/ 08 he won the Georgian Cup with Dinamo. For the season 2009/10 he took over the Slovakian champions Slovan Bratislava.

Private

Dušan Uhrin is the owner of a sanatorium in Franzensbad. His son Dušan Uhrin junior is also a football coach.
