E. V. Knox

Edmund George Knox, Edmund George Valpy Knox actually, ( born May 10, 1881 † January 2, 1971 ) was an English writer and editor.

Life

Knox was the eldest son of Edmund Arbuthnot Knox; his brothers were the code breaker Dillwyn Knox, the monk Wilfred Knox and the Catholic priest Ronald Knox. His schooling completed Knox at King Edward 's School in Birmingham (West Midlands ) and at Rugby School ' in Rugby ( Warwickshire ).

1912 married Frances Knox Christina Hicks ( 1885-1935 ) and had two children with her. He entered the Lincolnshire regiment and participated in the First World War. In October 1917 he was wounded and returned home.

His first literary efforts dated back to his school days. His literary breakthrough was achieved by Knox but only with his satirical articles, he was able to publish in the magazine " Punch". A large conveying this was the illustrator Ernest Shepard, whose daughter Mary Knox married 1937. Between 1932 and 1949, Knox acted as a responsible editor of the magazine " Punch".

Knox counted himself throughout his life to the agnostics; at the end of his life, but he approached again at the Church of England.

Reception

For the majority of his literary work Knox used the pseudonym Evoe. In addition to his satirical works, he also wrote a number of poems; the majority probably during the Second World War. As a satirist he studied mainly with writers such as Edmund Blunden, Robert Bridges, John Drinkwater, Walter de la Mare, John Masefield and John Collin Squire.
