Earl Spencer (peerage)

Earl Spencer is a British hereditary title of nobility, which was awarded in 1765 John Spencer. His father, the Hon John Spencer was the younger son of Charles Spencer, 3rd Earl of Sunderland and Lady Anne Churchill, daughter of John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough, and brother of Charles Spencer, 3rd Duke of Marlborough.

Subordinate titles are: Viscount Althorp of Great Brington (1905 ), Viscount Althorp ( 1765 ), Viscount Spencer (1761 ), Baron Spencer of Althorp (1761 ).

The title of today bears Charles Edward Maurice Spencer, 9th Earl Spencer ( b. 1964 ), brother of Lady Diana Spencer.
