Earl Wilbur Sutherland, Jr.
Earl Wilbur Sutherland Jr. ( born November 19, 1915 in Burlingame, California, † March 9, 1974 in Miami, Florida) was an American physiologist.
Sutherland discovered 1957 Cyclic adenosine monophosphate. He provided substantial work on hormones.
In 1969, he received a Gairdner Foundation International Award and the 1971 Albert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research. Also in 1971, Sutherland was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine " for his discoveries concerning the mechanisms of action of hormones ."
