Earth & Fire was a Dutch pop group of the 1970s. It was founded on 23 November 1968 in The Hague.

Band History

Earth & Fire were known with the single Seasons in their home in 1970, a title that had the singer and guitarist of the band Golden Earring, George Kooymans composed. In the same year, the band ended up with Ruby Is the One and Wild And Exciting other hits in the Netherlands.

From 1971 Earth & Fire developed their musical style from rock with echoes of Jefferson Airplane increasingly in the direction of Mellotron lastigem Symphonic / Progressive Rock. The following year, the band Memories reached # 1 on the Dutch charts for the first time; in Germany they had with this title their first chart entry, but just missed the top 30, your only international hit, the band released in late 1979 with the single Weekend, with which they also four weeks occupied the top of the German charts in May 1980. The band's sound became more pop over the years, the rock elements receded into the background.

Supporting forces of the band were Jerney Kaagman and the twin brothers Gerard and Chris Koerts. The other band members changed over time. After Chris Koerts had left the band in November 1979 fell 1983 Earth & Fire apart. With new members, followed by a comeback tour in 1987 and 1989, the last album.

The first LP Earth & Fire appeared in the Netherlands as a matchbook built in the so-called " Matchbox Cover ". The designed by artist Roger Dean British variant shows the roots of a large tree, shining through the in some places the printed inner sleeve with the glowing interior of the earth. Taking the inner shell out a woman is visible, lolling on a glowing beach.
