East Frisians

East Frisians are the residents of East Friesland in the north west of Lower Saxony in the broader sense. In a narrower sense, the East Frisians represent the eastern branch of the Frisian ethnic group and thus include not only the Danes, Sorbs, Sinti and Roma at the recognized minorities in Germany. They are closely related to the Sater Frisians, East Frisians derived from and were drawn from the coastal area to the inland.

Furthermore, the East Frisians are in relationship to the North Frisians and the Westlauwers'schen Friesen. East Frisians are from Ostfriesland in northwest Germany. Sometimes all the beading from the eastern Frisian areas ( East Frisian, Sater Frisians, Oldenburg Friesen, Friesen Rüstringer, Wurtfriesen ) are collectively referred to as the East Frisian and East Frisians.

It is assumed that Ostfriesland is inhabited mostly by the East Frisians. Exact figures are not available, since the commitment to an ethnic group or minority is free and will not be asked in censuses. The East Frisians in contrast to North and West Frisians lost the Frisian language very early. Vernacular is the East Frisian Platt today. In Frisian they are represented in the section east.
