West Frisians

The West Frisians (more precisely: Westlauwers'sche Friesen ), the Frisians in the Netherlands of the managed part of the Frisian settlement area. This area, the province of Friesland, is bounded on the west by the IJsselmeer and the east of the Lauwers. In Germany it is often incorrectly referred to Ostfriesland analogous West Friesland, hence the inaccurate term West Frisians. In the Netherlands, the inhabitants of the West Friesland and not Westlauwers'schen be called " West Friezen ", however, uniquely named Friesen.

The Westerlauwers -Friesen are related to the North Frisians and the eastern Friesen ( East Frisian, Sater Frisians and others). While the East Frisians have lost the Frisian language already in the later Middle Ages, speak of the approximately 660,000 Frisians in the Netherlands more than 400,000 West Frisian yet.
