East Java

Jawa Timur ( German East Java ) is an Indonesian province on the island of Java. The province comprises the eastern part of the island and the island of Madura.

With more than 750 inhabitants per square kilometer Jawa Timur is the most sparsely populated province in Java. The population is made up predominantly of Javanese and Madurese, and is committed largely to Islam (90 %). Capital is Surabaya with approximately 2.4 million residents, other major cities are Malang, Kediri and Banjuwangi.
