Ed Lumley

Edward C. Lumley PC ( born October 27, 1939 in Windsor, Ontario ) is a Canadian entrepreneur, business managers and politicians of the Liberal Party of Canada, who was for several years a Member of the House of Commons and Minister several times and since 2006 has been chancellor of the University of Windsor.

Life

After schooling Lumley graduated in Economics, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce ( B.Comm. ). He then worked as an entrepreneur.

His political career began Lumley in local politics and was 1972-1974 Mayor of Cornwall. In the general election on July 8, 1974 Lumley was elected as a candidate of the Liberal Party for the first time to the MPs in the House of Commons and represented in this until his election defeat in the elections of 4 September 1984 constituency Stormont -Dundas.

In October 1976, Lumley took his first government post and was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Regional Economic Expansion, before he was until September 1978, Parliamentary Secretary at the Treasury between October 1977.

On 3 March 1980 he was Minister of State for Trade and thereafter between 12 January and 29 September 1982 Nation Minister of International Trade.

On September 30, 1982 Lumley was appointed by Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau in the 22 Canadian cabinet and took over this bia December 6, 1983, the offices of the Minister of Regional Economic Expansion and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Commerce. In a cabinet reshuffle, he was then on December 7, 1983 Minister of Regional Industrial Expansion and kept this ministerial office in the area formed by Trudeau's successor, John Turner 23 Cabinet of Canada in the period from 30 June to 16 September 1984. Was the same time he from June 30 to September 16, 1984 Minister of Communications and Minister of State for Science and Technology.

After retiring from government and the House of Commons, he was back working as an entrepreneur and manager in the private sector and in 1991 Vice - Chairman of the Investment Company BMO Nesbitt Burns, Executive Director of the auto parts manufacturer Magna International and member of the boards of directors of Bell Canada, Canadian National Railway and Air Canada.

In 2000 he was appointed to chair a commission to investigate the remuneration and allowances of members of the Parliament of Canada, and since 2006 has been chancellor of the University of Windsor.
