Edward Alexander Sprinkle (* September 3, 1923 in Bradshaw, Texas, USA) Nickname: The Claw ( German: The Claw ) is a former American professional American football player. He played as a defensive end for the Chicago Bears in the National Football League ( NFL).

Career as a player

Sprinkle is the son of a Texas farmer and studied at the Hardin - Simmons University before the Naval Academy U.S. joined. At both institutions he played American football. In 1944 he was awarded with the Chicago Bears, coached by Hunk Anderson a contract and first played in the Offense and the Defense of the team. Due to his speed he was, however, increasingly being used in the course of his career as an end and as a defensive end. His head coach George Halas, who took over as coach for the Bears in 1946, had recognized that Sprinkle was an outstanding pass rusher and it regularly succeeded the opposing offensive line to run. In the face of the fact that evolved from American football running game to a game in which the winning pass throw more and more important, the skills of Sprinkle for his team were a decisive advantage. Sprinkle with the Bears in 1946 won the NFL Championship Game. The Bears were occupied excellent this year with players like Sid Luckman, Ken Kavanaugh, Joe and Bill Osmanski, and George McAfee and Bulldog Turner. In the final, the New York Giants were beaten with 24:14.

Sprinkle finished in 1955 after 12 years with the Bears game his career.
