Eddie Vinson

Eddie " Cleanhead " Vinson ( born December 18, 1917 in Houston, Texas, † July 2, 1988 in Los Angeles ) was an American jazz and rhythm and blues saxophonist who has also appeared as a blues singer.

Vinson's parents, both pianists, brought him early into contact with music. Even in high school he began playing the saxophone. He was a member of the 1935 band of Chester Boone, who also T -Bone Walker belonged at that time. From 1936 to 1941 he played together with the saxophonist Arnett Cobb and Illinois Jacquet in the band of Milt Larkin.

In 1941 he went to New York City and was blues shouter in the Cootie Williams Orchestra, where he recorded such classics as "Cherry Red". In 1945 he formed his own band, which belonged to then-unknown John Coltrane also. Here are some of his best songs, including " Kidney Stew " and the legendary " Cleanhead Blues" emerged.

Briefly, he played in the band of Count Basie, and in the 1960s he worked in the Johnny Otis Show. In the 1970s and 1980s he had with his characteristic mix style of jazz and blues, especially in Europe success, but he played an album with the group Roomful of Blues and a live album with Arnett Cobb and Alan Dawson in the USA.
