Eddy Choong

Eddy B. Choong (* May 29, 1930 in Penang, † January 28, 2013 in Georgetown, also known as Choong Ewe Beng ) was a badminton player from Malaysia. David Choong was his brother, his cousin Amy Choong and Choong Ewe Jin his cousin. His father was Choong Lye Hin, a former president of Penang.

Career

The only 1.57 meters tall Eddy Choong is regarded as the best player of his time. During his active career, he won 75 international championships in 15 countries and about 450 regional title fights. The unofficial world championships, the All England, he won four times in the men's singles. In 1955 he won with the Malaysian team the Thomas Cup, three years later, Malaysia lost the title to Indonesia.

Choong was included in the Badminton Hall of Fame in 1997. In his home he wore as only one in five people the title of Malaysian Greatest Sportsmen.
