Edgar Johan Kuusik

Edgar Johan Kuusik (born 10 Februarjul / February 22 1888greg on the estate Pikajärve, rural community Valgjärve, Livonia, .. † August 3, 1974 in Tallinn) was an Estonian architect.

Life

Edgar Johan Kuusik was born the son of an estate manager. From 1906 to 1914 he studied architecture at the Polytechnic Institute from the Livonian Riga. From 1918 to 1920 he took part in the Estonian War of Independence against Soviet Russia. From 1920 he was mainly active as a freelance interior designer and architect in Estonia. He was co-founder in 1921 of the Estonian Union of Architects ( Eesti Arhitektide Ühing ).

From 1944 to 1950 Kuusik was Chair of Interior Design at the State Institute of Applied Arts in Tallinn, then he taught architecture at the National Estonian Art Institute ( Erki ). From 1946, he held the title of professor. From 1950 to 1952 he was excluded for political reasons from the Architects Association of Estonian SSR, but was subsequently rehabilitated.

In 1968 the title of " Honoured architect of Estonian SSR " was awarded Kuusik.

Private life

Edgar Juhan Kuusik married in 1931. Three years later, his daughter Livia was born. Kuusik today lies in the forest cemetery of Tallinn buried.
