Edith Klestil

Edith Maria Klestil ( born November 13, 1932 in Vienna, † March 29, 2011 ibid ), born Wielander, was the former wife of the Austrian diplomat and politician Thomas Klestil.

Edith Maria grew up as the only child of postal workers Wielander Leopold and his wife Rosalia Wielander in the 3rd district of Vienna, highway, on. The parents' apartment was located in 1932 and 1938 at the address 3, Paulusplatz 9, in the district part Erdberg, not far from the now defunct slaughterhouse St. Marx. ( Thomas Klestil also grew up in Erdberg, he attended high school in the Hagenmüllergasse. )

Leopold Wielander was born on 25 October 1896, died at the age of 54 years in March 1951. Wielander Rosalia was born about 1896 and died in April 1985 at the age of 89 years. Both grave in which Edith Maria Klestil was also buried, is located in Vienna 's Central Cemetery (Group 153, number 28, number 38).

1949, at the age of 17, she met the same age Klestil know. She was married to him on 8 June 1957 to September 1998.

1992 Thomas Klestil was elected president; Edith Klestil worked on the campaign trail with him. With his assistant Margot Löffler expected him already then more connected than just the work.

In January 1994, Edith separated from her husband when she would not longer tolerate the affair with Margot Löffler. In the divorce in September 1998 it was agreed that Edith Klestil receives the tenancy of an apartment at the Vienna Regional Court Road.

The separation of the couple Klestil led to further alienation of the Federal President of Austria's conservative camp, which had him a candidate in 1992. Edith Klestil however, received numerous expressions of sympathy.
