Édouard Bureau

Louis Édouard Bureau ( born May 25, 1830 in Nantes, † December 14, 1918 in Paris) was a French physician and botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Bureau ".

Life and work

From 1875 he was director of the Herbarium at the Muséum national d' histoire naturelle. From 1874 to 1905 he was a professor there. In 1875 he was chairman of the Société botanique de France. He was a member of the Académie nationale de médecine and 1895-1917 Member of the Comité des travaux historiques et scientifiques. He was succeeded in 1906 by the French botanist Paul Henri Lecomte ( 1856-1934 ).

Bureau worked at the factory Dictionnaire de botanique by Henri Ernest Baillon with. For volume XVII (1873 ) of the work Prodromus systematis naturalis regni vegetabilis by Augustin - de Candolle Pyrame he wrote the article " Moraceae, Artocarpeae ". To Flora Brasiliensis by Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius he wore along with Karl Moritz Schumann at the part " Bignoniaceae " for Volume VIII.

Due to its collections in China, the plant species Rhododendron is named after him bureavii.
