Édouard Goubert

Edouard Goubert ( born July 29, 1894 in Pondicherry, † August 14 1979 in Asho ) was a French- Indian politician. He represented from 1951 to 1954 French India in the French National Assembly. Goubert played an important role in the connection of the French possessions in India. Biography

Edouard Goubert was born on July 29, 1894 in Pondicherry ( Puducherry ), then capital of French India. He began a career in the colonial administration and worked as chief clerk at the Court of Pondicherry. In 1951, he ran as an associate with the Union démocratique et Socialiste de la Résistance ( UDSR ) candidate for the seat of French India in the French National Assembly ( Assemblée Nationale). Goubert won the election with an overwhelming majority of 99.3 percent of the vote.

After the French possessions in India were in a referendum in 1949 decided except Chandannagars still to remain in France, won the pro- Indian group in the following years on back.
